“Meet the candidate” forum on Tuesday 1st April 2025
On Tuesday 1st April Engadine Uniting Church hosted over 116 people at a forum to bring candidates and constituents together for the opportunity for the candidates to share their policies, and respond to questions and concerns from voters.
Sitting Member of Parliament, Jenny Ware MP represented the Liberal Party, and the Labor Party was represented by candidate David Moncrieff. The Greens were represented by the very recent candidate Catherine Dyson.
Speakers and guests alike were offered a sumptuous spread of cake, cheese and biccies with a cup of tea as they took the chance to meet each other and mingle with their neighbours.
Guests were invited to lodge questions beforehand and list the federal issues that most concerned them, and could also text or write in questions on the night. We worked very hard to ensure that the most popular topics were covered! With over 85 questions, it was impossible to get to them all but we did our best to pick a fair representation. All questions lodged online were provided to the candidates before the evening, and the full collection sent to them afterwards.
The federal election will be held on Saturday 3rd May this year. Sutherland Shire Council is home to two divisions, or seats: Hughes and Cook. The division of Hughes includes local suburbs Engadine, Heathcote, Loftus, Waterfall, Woronora Heights, and Yarrawarrah plus Alfords Point, Bangor, Barden Ridge, Bundeena, Illawong, Maianbar, Menai, the Royal National Park, Sandy Point, all of Sutherland and parts of both Como and Jannali.
