New service!

Engadine@5

We have launched a new monthly contemporary worship service that meets at 5pm on the second Sunday of the month. Whether you’ve been part of the faith for many years or you’re simply curious, you are warmly invited to come and share in this special gathering. Read all the details and dates here.

Worship services

Come and join us

As well as our new service, we regularly meet at 9am on Sundays, offering a hybrid service so that you can attend in person or join us from wherever you are. Click here to join us via Zoom. You can read our weekly church newsletter here.

We gather for worship for about an hour, matching our formal liturgy with good humour and a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Our sermons, prayers and even the words of our hymns do not shy away from politics, economics and other current affairs.

Congregational members play a key role in design and participation, structured around the Revised Common Lectionary which is used across denominations and the world. Using resources written by Uniting Church clergy and with the support of a retired minister in the congregation, our team of nine worship leaders take turns to present the worship service, with other people rostered on to do the prayers and bible readings.

Once every month, we celebrate communion, usually on the first Sunday of the month. In keeping with the practice of the Uniting Church in welcoming all to the table, we use grape juice and offer a gluten-free option for the bread.

Following the service we have morning tea in the hall where lively discussion of the service and the message often takes place.

Accessibility

We have an internal stairlift as an alternative to the external steps. Just to the left of the front steps you will find a street-level entry door which takes you to the stairlift. Alternatively, we have ramp access for wheels via the gated side yard.

Remote access: You are welcome to join us online or by phoning in to listen to the service. Click here to join us via Zoom, or phone 02 8015 6011 and enter the meeting ID 970 8990 9368.

Fellowship and friendship

Social Group

Our social group meets every Wednesday, and alternates between the church hall and a local cafe. On the first and third Wednesdays of the month we meet we meet at 10am in the church hall for a cuppa and a chat. Jigsaw puzzles and board games are popular, and some members bring their knitting or other craft. Everyone brings their own lunch and we enjoy another cuppa before going home. On the second Wednesday of the month we meet up at 10am at Lorenzini’s Cafe in Engadine town square (inside the Engadine Community Centre), and on the fourth Wednesday we go for lunch at midday to the Engadine Bowling Club. Everyone welcome: email us at admin@engadine.unitingchurch.org.au for more details.

Study and development

Book Club

You are warmly invited to join our book club, originally established to educate ourselves on our First Nations peoples, past and present. It has now evolved to explore, discuss, and seek to understand the social justice issues we see around us.

We have two groups meeting together for a rich discussion and journey of self-education: a morning group (10-11.30am) and an evening group (7.30-9pm) that meet (usually) on the second Wednesday of each month at the church. Lots more info here!

Discussion and exploration

Faith Conversations

Join us for understanding, support and friendship in an environment where it’s safe to ask questions, raise doubts, deconstruct and share the journey. We discuss podcasts, articles, videos and books.

‘Faith Conversations’ meets 7.30-9.00pm on alternate Mondays. Everyone welcome: email us at admin@engadine.unitingchurch.org.au for more details.

Sewing to recycle and upcycle

“The Eco Stitch’n’Sew Hub”

Everyone is warmly invited to join the sewing group that meets weekly and monthly to help each with clothing repairs and up-cycling sewing projects to help keep fabric out of landfill. Thanks to generous donations of equipment, we now have eight sewing machines and an overlocker onsite, so you can even come along to learn how to sew! It’s also a time for socialising and afternoon tea. We meet 3-6pm every Thursday evening, and 2-5pm on the third Sunday of the month. Read all about the sewing group here.

Discussion and development

Care, Share, and Prayer

Join us as we study the Bible, discuss how we can care for others, share our concerns for all, and pray for those in need.

‘Care Share and Prayer’ meets 10am in the Courtyard Rooms at the church every Tuesday. Everyone welcome: email us at admin@engadine.unitingchurch.org.au for more details.
