The not-for-profit, community organisation One Meal Sutherland Shire helps to feed, clothe and support vulnerable and at-risk members of our local communities, and is extending its service to Engadine in September. This event was the information night for people who had registered as volunteers.
Six teams of five or six volunteers have been established, and rostered to serve dinner outdoors on Wednesday evenings out of a fully equipped service van.
Each Wednesday, the rostered team will attend a location in Engadine behind the new Salvos Store in the main street (old Commonwealth Bank site), set up some tables and bench seats and serve food to patrons who attend the service. The team will be asked to contribute dessert and some fresh fruit to complete the meal (a sponsorship arrangement for the fruit depending on patron numbers may be explored once the service is up and running).
Each Team will require a Team Leader, but teams will initially be supported by the already established Sutherland Shire team. Team Leaders pick up the Service Van (parked in Engadine) and collect the main meal from the restaurant, take the food to service, participate in service and return the van to its parking spot when the service is wrapped up.
